Bee Smart: Discover the Benefits of Pollinators

Register Now for September 25 Event!

 

Learn about the life of bees, how to identify common species, and which native plants are most beneficial to them at Go Native U's Understanding Pollinators, September 25, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., at Westchester Community College. 

 10-11:30 a.m. Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Bees, Tim Stanley ($40)

Explore the little known but fascinating world of native bees, learn what you can do on their behalf, and gain an overall appreciation for these captivating insects.
  

11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Planting for Pollinators,  Kim Eierman ($55)

 

Find out which native plants to use in developing a pollinator garden that attracts and supports a wide variety of native pollinators. 

 2:30-3:30 p.m. Conservation of the Wild Bees of Rockefeller Preserve, Susan Antenen ($25) Discover how the preserve is assisting populations of pollinators through a special photographic project and colorful online guide and what you can do to encourage these essential insects.

 

3:45-5 p.m. Pollinator Field Walk

 

Students who register for one or more of the Understanding Pollinators classes are invited to a free field walk on campus to study insects up close. Learn to use a sweep net to gently catch and release pollinators and identify their favorite flowers.
