Invasives Removal at Bear Mountain - Mile-a-minute pull

Date:
Sunday, June 28, 2015 - 9:00am to 11:30am
Location:
Bear Mountain

Good morning,

On Sunday, June 28th, I’ll be performing invasive removal in Bear Mountain State Park. Several volunteers will be needed to assist removing the Mile-a-Minute vines.

You will need gloves, as the mile-a-minute vines have downward facing thorns (so when you pull up the plants, they can stick in your hands). Gardening gloves should be perfect for the job! We also have gloves that we will be happy to lend to you if you don't have your own.

Bring some water and come ready to work!

The site is located along the Palisades Parkway (south bound) a little under 1.5 miles west of the Bear Mountain traffic circle. We’ll meet in a small clearing on the side of the parkway, in the gap between the guard rails. Mile marker 35.5 clearly marks the location. The clearing is just before the sign that reads “Palisades PKWY, New Jersey, NY City.” GPS coordinates: N 41 19.101  W 74 00.927.

We’ll meet at 9:30 am and work will last for approximately 2 hours. The mile-a-minute infestation is a couple hundred feet off the road in the forest understory.

Please let me know if you're interested and able to help, and if you cannot, please let me know other dates or days of the week that you'll be able to volunteer so that I'll know for future events!

Let’s clean up the Hudson Valley!
Best,
Gina
