Invasives Talk at Jay Heritage Center

Date:
Saturday, April 18, 2015 - 10:30am to 12:00pm
Location:
Rye

Come hear Dr. Linda Rohleder, Director of Land Stewardship for the NY-NJ Trail Conference and program coordinator of the Lower Hudson Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management (LH PRISM) talk about what New York State is doing to combat and control threats like Japanese Knotweed, porcelainberry and Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) in our parks and public lands.

Dr. Rohleder will explain how the LH PRISM is working to address the threat of exotic and non-natives through its collaborations and exchange of techniques and experiences with other like-minded organizations like Scenic Hudson and the Native Plant Center of Westchester. With an emphasis on education, prevention, early detection and rapid response, the goal is to protect the rich biodiversity of the region by identifying conservation areas. LH PRISM engages volunteers as citizen scientists in data collecting, restoration and management projects. The talk will last 1 1/2 hours. This is an ideal opportunity for community educators, school teachers, Master Gardeners, and landscape professionals to learn more and ask questions about how they can have a measurable impact in their own communities.
