Volunteer Invasive Species Removal with NY State Parks Weed Team

Date:
Tuesday, July 8, 2014 - 9:00am to 11:00am
Location:
Bear Mountain

Help the Weed Team and the Mile-a-Minute Project of the Hudson Valley with removal of mile-a-minute vine at Bear Mountain State Park!  Get a little exercise, enjoy the great outdoors, and learn about other invasive plants too, such as Japanese stiltgrass.

The site is located along the Palisades Parkway (south bound), a little under 1.5 miles west of the Bear Mountain traffic circle. We’ll meet in a small clearing on the right side of the parkway, in a gap between the guard rails at mile marker 35.5. The clearing is just before the sign that reads “Palisades PKWY, New Jersey, NY City.” GPS coordinates: N 41 19.101, W 74 00.927.

Please bring water and be prepared for outdoor work!  Wear long pants and closed-toed shoes.  A sturdy pair of work gloves will be required, as mile-a-minute vines have small thorns. Gloves can be provided, if needed.
