++++

Invasive species adversely affect our ability to enjoy natural areas by creating areas of erosion and “wastelands,” as in Bamboo infections crowding out native plant communities and Bittersweet pulling down stands of native trees. Black swallowwort, stilt-grass, mile-a-minute and other invasive plant species can take over native plant communities by shading out and displacing native wildflowers, trees and shrubs, reducing the beauty and diversity of our native plant communities.

The Hudson Highlands Land Trust invites you to join Landscape Restorations on a hike through Manitou Point Preserve’s Public Trails to get tips for managing invasive species in your own backyard. Debra Adamsons and her team specialize in restoring disturbed areas through native plant-community rehabilitation, native flora garden design and invasive species management.

During the hike you will see how managing invasive species increases biodiversity and learn how smart horticultural practices in your home gardens can help prevent the spread of invasive plant species.

The hike is free but advance registration is required as space is very limited.
