Japanese Stilt Grass Removal Competition at Minnewaska

Date:
Saturday, July 14, 2018 - 10:00am to 12:00pm
Location:
Minnewaska State Park Preserve, 5281 Route 44-55, Kerhonkson, NY

Come help prevent the spread of Japanese stilt grass by joining in a friendly group competition to see who can pull the most out of the ground for Invasive Species Awareness Week at Minnewaska State Park Preserve! Japanese stilt grass is an invasive grass that grows quickly and forms dense mats, inhibiting the growth of native plants. Its seeds are easily spread on the boots and clothes of passersby, but luckily it is also very easy to pull out.  Because of that, this volunteer event is a great opportunity for families with children, who will be able to lend a hand in protecting our native species of plants. By pulling the population along the trails, we can prevent it from spreading further into the Park Preserve. Plus, there will be prizes for the winning team! Let us know you’re coming so we can anticipate how many prizes we’ll need. Meet at the Peter’s Kill Office and let the pull begin!

Pre-registration required  by calling Minnewaska at 845-255-0752.
