On Saturday, July 13 at 10 am, join Cary Institute forest ecologist Gary Lovett for a walk on the Cary grounds and learn about the forest pests and diseases that are killing our trees. Emerald ash borer, Asian longhorned beetle, and hemlock woolly adelgid are just a few of the imported insects which, together, cause more than $2 billion in damages each year.
The problem is widespread, with pests present in all 50 states. The Hudson Valley is one of the hardest-hit areas in the country.
The walk will meet in the main campus parking area located at 2801 Sharon Tpk., Millbrook, N.Y. The event is free and open to the public. Wear comfortable walking shoes, and bring drinking water.
